Fort St. Joseph
Recherche avancée des sites archéologiques
This Archaeological site studies the history of Fort St. Joseph. The efforts of Western Michigan University archaeologists are unlocking the
secrets of this long lost, but not forgotten, frontier outpost of New
France. Since our discovery of the site on the ground in 1998 we have
begun to piece together its colonial history from artifacts, features
(e.g., building remains), ecofacts (i.e., animal bones and plant
remains), and documents.
Our recovery efforts are conducted in partnership with the City of
Niles, the Fort St. Joseph Museum, Support the Fort, Inc., and other
community groups. We invite your participation in the project by taking
one of our summer camps, visiting our annual open house or other
outreach event, or through your financial support. Please visit our website at www.wmich.edu/fortstjoseph We look forward to seeing you in the field or at a
future public venue.
